Farmer’s Market in S.L.O. and Dinner

Thursday evenings up in San Luis Obispo, which is about 10 miles north of Pismo Beach, there is a large Farmer’s Market.  The city blocks off Higuera Street to motor traffic and local farmer’s drive in and set up stalls with their produce.  Many local restaurants set up stalls or kitchens and prepare meals for sale. There are also stands with desserts, honey, flowers and so much more. 

We decided to go this past Thursday mainly just to eat dinner from a market stand we really love.  It is a huge outdoor kitchen set up right on the street by the F. McLintocks restaurant and they feature great BBQ.

San Luis Obispo is the home to the California Polytechnic State University.  This time of year, since the weather is warm and the sun sets later, the place was jam packed with the university students.  When we were here last January, the place was much less crowded.  Of course, the weather was much cooler.  Everyone was out enjoying the warm evening at the market.

The Farmer’s Market is open from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  We parked in one of the public parking garages (75 cents) and walked over to Higuera Street.  It was almost 6:00 so we decided we better get on down to the McLintocks BBQ restaurant.  Holy Moley, the line was half way down the block already.

                        We got into the line along with everyone else.  Proof that the food is great here.DSCF6649

To make the wait fun, the cooks sing and play along with the crowd.  It takes your mind off the wait.  In actuality we only waited 15 minutes for our turn to order.  They bring in a huge BBQ grill on a wheeled cart and pretty much establish a whole outdoor kitchen.  They sell tri-tip kabobs, beef ribs, pork munchies, sandwiches, corn on the cob, artichokes and a pile of other side dishes.  Bruce and I ordered the tri-tip kabob and a pork munchie each.

We got our two items each and after payment, we took our meal over to the curb and sat down to enjoy it.  There were a very few tables around the corner from there, but the tables were all taken.  We sat on the curb happily and did some people watching while we ate. 

We poked along after eating and checked out some of the farmer’s stalls.  Didn’t buy anything, just looked.  This is a nice place to visit.

It was a nice evening, but it was time to get back to Annie in Pismo Beach.  We can come back here every Thursday night if we want to.  Maybe we will.

Looks like a really good evening, crowd and all. I bet the food was really good! Making it another Thursday might be a good and fun thing to do. You guys take care and enjoy!

We've eaten at the McClintock's Restaurant, not at the farmer's market stand. Good food! I liked your pictures of the Market.

We were in Pismo Beach in 1999 and had a chance to ride horses on the Beach it was wonderful. We ride in the mountains in Canada all the time so it was a nice change. Love your blog Margie

I'm hoping we're in Pismo Beach on a Thursday night because that BBQ will definitely be on my list of 'must go' places! It sure looked great!

I remember eating at McLintocks years ago, and the waiters refilled water glasses from behind the person, with a steady stream of water over their shoulder into their glass. It had the best food - my kids still stop there when in the area. Sounds like a great Thursday evening.

Looks great. I could do without all the people, but that is just me. I wonder what that humus is made of. I like the Garbonza bean humus...The vegetables looked great..

That BBQ looked delicioso!!! I would have had to take about a dozen napkins for that stuff!...BBQ is one of the many reasons we love Texas...Those Texans make some kick butt brisket!!
